Playkour at Greenwich Out of School Hours 2025

School Holidays, Sky-High Energy: Inside Greenwich OOSH’s Parkour Takeover

Monday, 7 July 2025, the first big morning of the winter break as we rolled into Greenwich Out of School Hours. The brief was simple: give 50 kids a taste of real parkour inside two hours. The reality? Thirty-six kids, 72 percent capacity, and enough wide-eyed “did-you-see-that?” moments to fill a highlight reel.

Behind the Scenes at the GOOSH Activation

This wasn’t a cookie-cutter incursion; it was a custom spin on our Playkour Starter 40. Two 60-minute rotations; older kids first, younger ones after. The opener? A live demo—front-flips, wall-runs, and a quick chat on why parkour matters in daily life. Energy shot through the roof; nerves dropped to the floor.

The Setup

Beneath the towering gums at 72A Greenwich Road we used what was already there—handrails became vault rails, logs turned into balance drills, stone ledges morphed into precision stations. No gym required; just imagination and a few portable boxes. Parents loved the “use-your-own-playground” approach.

The Twist

Mid-session, one shy eight-year-old froze before a jump. Our coach knelt, pointed to an even smaller rail, and said, “Start here, win here.” Two tries later she cleared the original gap and fist-bumped her mates. That single win echoed all day—and reminded us why small progressions matter more than big spectacles.

The Numbers

  • 2 stations, 25-kid capacity each rotation
  • 36 total participants, 72 percent efficiency
  • 100 percent smiles leaving the field (unofficial metric, totally accurate)

What We Learned (And What You Can Steal)

We treat every activation like a live prototype; here are the gems.

From an entrepreneur’s lens, here’s what worked:

Parent-Powered Trust: This booking came from a parent who’d seen our birthday party gig; warm leads beat cold ads every time.

Age-Split Rotations: Older kids first meant we could crank difficulty, then dial it back for juniors without slowing either group.

Real-World Obstacles: Using existing playground gear lowered barrier-to-entry and showcased parkour vision; budgets love it, councils applaud it.

Performance Hook: Opening demo converted spectators into participants on the spot; nothing sells like live proof.

Here’s what we’d do differently next time:

Pre-Reg Funnel: No opt-in form meant zero emails captured; next run gets QR posters for quick sign-ups.

Staff Camera: We missed real-time reels; a dedicated content creator is now non-negotiable.

Pro Tip for Event Founders

Borrow the council’s comms channels early. Lane Cove Council pushes weekly “What’s On” posts—get in that listing and your reach triples overnight.

Why This Was More Than Just a Workshop

Programs like City of Ryde’s “Active Youth: Parkour” prove councils are hunting for movement-based youth activations, yet many still rent inflatables and call it a day. We showed Greenwich that a compact parkour circuit can deliver confidence, community, and controlled chaos—all within vacation-care hours.

We weren’t just teaching jumps; we were handing out courage, one vault at a time. Parents left asking when the next session is; kids left scouting rails on the walk to the car. That’s brand stickiness money can’t buy.
